Escapade and Kid – the future’s
bright.
The future is looking very bright for both KID and
Escapade product lines. We have recently concluded negotiations with Lanitz
Folien Gmbh of Leipzig in Germany, who have set up a new subsidiary company -
Lanitz Aviation -to sell both Kid and
Escapade aircraft in the EU starting in Germany under their new 120kg
deregulated category. The partnership will be launched at this year’s AERO at
Friedrichshafen in April, with a KID outfitted with BRS. Escapade Aircraft
Ltd was set up 18 months ago to manufacture the Escapade KID – the single-seat,
3 axis 115kg variant of the side-by-side two-seater Reality Escapade. Both
aircraft share the unique wingfold mechanism which only takes a couple of
minutes to deploy or fold, making hangar storage or trailering an order of
magnitude easier. The Escapade also has the unique ability to be transformed
between nosewheel and tailwheel configuration. The two sister
companies (Escapade Aircraft producing the KID and Reality Aircraft producing
the Escapade) have moved into new premises at Old Sarum airfield in order to
meet the demand for both product lines. New arrangements
have been set up; with Airweld Ltd of Crawley, Hampshire for the manufacture of
new airframes and to carry out repair work using CAA-approved TIG welding, and
with The Light Airplane Company (TLAC) of Norfolk for the production of CNC
precision cut parts and Oratex covering materials. The arrangement
with Airweld will ensure the best value and highest quality welded parts,
coupled with reduced delivery times. Company plans for the future
include:

Offering the
Oratex covering currently used on the KID in a heavier-duty version for the
Escapade. Lanitz Folien are currently working on an improved version of the
Oratex fabric which can be used on aircraft having wing loadings in excess of
the 10.1lbs per sq ft limit currently approved in the UK which will be suitable
for the Escapade. The solvent-less, paint-less Oratex covering process would
make the Escapade an ideal project for youth or school groups. ·
A
lightweight 2 cylinder 33hp boxer style engine for the KID in addition to the
Wankel engine shown at the NEC in November. Flight details on both of these
engine options will be available shortly. ·
To offer the
Escapade ready to fly, in order to meet the needs of schools who wish to offer
taildragger training, as well as those who don’t have the desire, the time or
the skills to make the kit version. Kid aircraft are
available in any stage of construction starting from a basic airframe kit at
£6000 to a ready to fly aircraft at £20,000 inc VAT. Escapade aircraft
are available as kits in either taildragger or nosewheel variants. prices range
